A couple of weeks ago I was creating a shopping cart for the Punk Scholars Network (PSN) site I was building. I learned so much from that build about the e-commerce functionality of Squarespace. Things like connecting to the payment gateway, creating products and shipping cost rules were all new and interesting things to research, figure out and implement.
It was almost an apprenticeship for this website upgrade project for Tweedy Clothing. The Tweedy Clothing team had already set up their website complete with a shopping cart on Squarespace but had ran in to some problems and needed some help to get the store functioning better and to show the extensive range of clothing products in the best way and to make the user experience for the shopper as smooth as possible.
I reconfigured the online store, made improvements to the home page as well as adding a whole load of content.
Back when I was a lecturer at Solent Uni, one of the courses I taught on was MA Creative Enterprise. Some of those students were interested in creating their own ethical and sustainable clothing line. Through reading the student’s essays about their research into the fashion industry and the environment I came to understand just how bad for the planet ‘fast fashion’ is:

How brilliant then in working on the Tweedy site to discover just how passionate Cacey and Josh (the owners of Tweedy Clothing) are about the planet:
“Tweedy Clothing is an independent fashion label that is focused on sustainable and ethical fashion. We believe in fashion with a conscience. After all, knowing that your clothing is made by skilled adult workers who are paid fairly in great conditions and also made from beautiful earth conscious fabrics will help you wear your garms with pride and make feel great inside and out! We love our planet; it inspires our awesome designs and we want to share that passion with you!”
If you have five minutes to spare click over to the Tweedy Clothing website and check out the ‘what matters to us section’. It makes for inspiring reading. Tweedy clothing is a great example of a social enterprise in action you will find. I wish them every success.
